Description

Purpose of the Job 


To build and maintain application code for internal and external tools to ensure that systems are developed securely and in accordance with established coding standards and function optimally to meet business needs.


Statements of Main Responsibilities


1. Code Development

a. Write clean, maintainable front-end and back-end code per framework standards to ensure high-quality, functional applications.

b. Develop application features and functionality according to business requirements and user needs, contributing to both UI and server-side components.


2. Integration and Testing

a. Integrate applications with APIs, databases, and third-party services to ensure seamless data exchange and system interoperability.

b. Write unit and integration tests to ensure code quality, minimize bugs, and ensure applications are robust and reliable.


3. Issue Management and Documentation

a. Triage tickets by identifying issues, resolving bugs, and providing timely fixes to ensure uninterrupted application performance.

b. Document release notes for new features, bug fixes, and changes to ensure clarity and effective communication with the development team and other stakeholders.


4. Collaboration and Continuous Learning

a. Work closely with senior developers to understand project goals and technical requirements, contributing to project execution as part of a collaborative team.

b. Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are met and to improve code quality through feedback.

c. Continuously learn new development techniques, tools, and best practices to contribute effectively to application development and ensure growth within the team.


5. Secure Coding Practices

a. Follow secure coding guidelines to ensure that applications are developed securely, preventing vulnerabilities such as SQL injection, XSS, and buffer overflows.

b. Incorporate security measures into the development lifecycle, including input validation, encryption, and authentication, to protect sensitive data.

c. Conduct code reviews with a focus on security to identify potential security weaknesses and ensure that code meets security compliance standards.

d. Stay updated on the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and coding best practices, applying them to ongoing and future development tasks to minimize security risks.


Requirements


a) General Education:


Full Grade 12 School Certificate


b) Professional/Academic Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or any related field

Member of ICTAZ or relevant Professional Body

c) Relevant Pre-Job Experience:


2 years of working experience in the Information and Communication Technology field
