Position: School Bus Driver (PSV Driver)

School Bus Driver - Special Needs Transportation
🏫 Special Needs Environment: Bauleni Special Needs Project is seeking an experienced and professional PSV Driver to join our team. You will play a crucial role in providing safe and reliable transportation services to our special needs school children, school tours, and sporting events.
Primary Responsibility:
To operate our school bus in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and Project policies while delivering exceptional customer service to special needs learners and other passengers.
🚌 NOTE: This position requires special sensitivity and care when transporting children with disabilities.
Bus Operations Responsibilities:
- Safely operate the School bus in accordance with traffic laws, regulations, and Project policies
- Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in optimal condition
- Report any bus issues to immediate supervisor promptly
- Adhere to scheduled routes and timetables, ensuring punctuality and efficient service delivery
- Maintain a clean and tidy interior of the school bus, ensuring learners' comfort and safety
Passenger Safety & Assistance Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring a pleasant and comfortable journey for learners and other passengers
- Familiarise yourself with the bus features (air conditioning, wheelchair accessibility, etc.) and ensure they function correctly
- Assist learners with boarding and disembarking, especially those with severe disabilities
- Handle learners' enquiries, concerns and complaints professionally and courteously
- Escalate issues to the immediate supervisor when necessary
- Maintain a calm and controlled environment on-board by promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere
- Ensure learners/passengers are aware of and adhere to safety regulations, such as wearing seat belts when required
⚠️ Special Note: This position requires exceptional patience and care when dealing with special needs children.
Compliance & Documentation Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Adhere to PSV licensing requirements and driver's hours' regulations
- Maintain accurate records including driver logs, vehicle maintenance records, incident reports, and passenger counts
- Adhere to Project policies regarding health and safety, security and confidentiality
Vehicle Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Report any bus maintenance or repair needs promptly to the Transport & Logistics Officer
- Carry out basic vehicle maintenance tasks (fuelling, cleaning, checking fluid levels)
- Coordinate with the Transport & Logistics Officer to ensure regular bus servicing
Qualifications & Requirements:
⚠️ MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Valid PSV License with certificate of professional competence
- Previous experience as a PSV driver, preferably as a bus driver in similar setting is preferred
- Excellent driving skills and a clean driving record
- Strong knowledge of traffic regulations and road safety
- Customer-focused mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Physically fit and able to assist learners/passengers with luggage when necessary
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays when necessary
