Job Title: Accounting Intern
Location: Ndola resident
Industry: Service industry
Contract Type: Internship( part time)
Job Purpose:
To support the finance and accounting department in day-to-day operations including bookkeeping, financial reporting, data entry, reconciliations, and administrative tasks, and understanding of Zambian financial regulations and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping & Data Entry
▪️Post journal entries and assist in maintaining general ledgers.
▪️Record daily financial transactions into accounting software (e.g., Pastel, QuickBooks, Sage, or ERP systems).
Bank & Cash Reconciliation
▪️Assist in reconciling bank statements with internal records.
▪️Ensure all cash and bank transactions are properly recorded and balanced.
Invoicing & Payments
▪️Prepare and send invoices to clients.
▪️Process payment vouchers and assist in verifying supporting documentation.
▪️Financial Reporting Support
Help compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
▪️Assist in preparing management accounts and budget vs actual analysis.
Audit Support
▪️Help gather documentation for internal and external audits.
▪️Ensure proper filing of receipts, vouchers, and financial records.
Compliance & Regulatory
▪️Assist in preparing ZRA returns (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax) under supervision.
▪️Learn and help apply Zambian tax laws and accounting regulations (ZRA, ZICA, etc.).
Administrative Duties
▪️Filing, photocopying, scanning, and organizing accounting records.
▪️Assist with procurement processes, petty cash management, and logistical support.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
▪️Grade 12 certificate
▪️Diploma/ degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Technical Skills:
▪️Basic knowledge of Zambian tax system (e.g., VAT, PAYE, ZRA obligations).
▪️Familiarity with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage Pastel, or similar).
▪️Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Soft Skills:
▪️Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
▪️Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
▪️Ethical, professional, and respectful of confidentiality Preferred Knowledge:
▪️Understanding of ZICA (Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants) regulations.
▪️Basic awareness of IFRS for SMEs or other relevant financial reporting.
